DJS Culture evening - Film & Whisky and Salon Schmuus in cooperation

Hanukka, Hanukkah, Chanukkah, Chanuka - the name of this holiday is spelled in many different ways. Let us celebrate this many-named holiday together before the Festival of Light is actually starting and your near and dear will send you their invitations

Jewish Culture in Copenhagen have created an unparallelled DJS culture evening comprising exciting visit from Berlin - a unique lecture by a unique lady accompanied by Jewish music - and a rather unusual film afterwards, crowned by whisky and doughnut to celebrate the season.

HanukkaSchmuus
Salomea Genin from Berlin will talk about her early childhood in Berlin, escape and teenage years and Communist affiliation in Australia and her Stasi past  in the GDR (in English) accompanied by Germany's most famous Yiddish singer Karsten Troyke.

Chanuka Film & Whisky
Exploring a deeply personal and taboo topic of Judaism, SACRED SPERM is a sensitive and serious-minded examination of one of the most important prohibitions in the ultra-Orthodox community.
According to Jewish tradition, there is no forgiveness or atonement for the grave sin of 'wasting sperm'. Yet, despite its seriousness, is it possible to fulfill this commandment in today's reality?

Filmmaker Ori Gruder, himself an Orthodox Jew, begins an investigation of Judaism’s prohibition on masturbation, and breaks the conspiracy of silence that surrounds the topic in ultra-Orthodox (or Haredi) society. He speaks of the difficulty this prohibition poses to unmarried men, speaks with rabbis to clarify the reasons for the prohibition, and asks questions of Haredi men to understand how he ought to educate his son in that context.
Despite the harsh texts and rabbinic teachings, a tolerant side of religious adherence is revealed as well, with vulnerable worshippers receiving genuinely loving support from the community.
As the director struggles with clarifying the sacred covenant to his teenage son, SACRED SPERM provides a fascinating and respectful first exposure to this provocative theological belief.
