Jewish Christmas songs and Hanukkah songs of non-Jewish composers.
Why do Jews write Christmas songs? And why do non-Jews write Hanukkah songs? We'll have all the answers and more when Eva Lehrer will guide us around in the world of Christmas songs and Hanukkah songs and opera singers Idil Alpsoy and Ayala Zimbler Hertz will sing them for us.
Causerie and concert with singers Ayala Zimbler Hertz and Idil Alpsoy and JCC's own Eva Lehrer.
Kitschy, glitchy, nostalgic and very entertaining. Good fun for the whole family!
The two young opera singers have earlier performed for the Jewish Culture Festival in Copenhagen with great success.
Idil Alpsoy is a Swedish mezzo-soprano with Hungarian-Turkish roots. Her unique voice unites Northern purity and Southern warmth and temperament. She graduated from the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. She has performed at the Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen Opera Festival, the Norwegian Opera, the Danish String Quartet, Middle East Peace Orchestra and collaborated with important singers.
Ayala Zimbler Hertz is an Israeli mezzo-soprano living in Denmark. She graduated from the Music School of Tel Aviv University. She has performed in many outstanding operatic roles and as a soloist with among others the Israeli Chamber Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. She has also appeared at various recitals and concerts throughout Israel and Denmark and has been the recipient of several music scholarships.
Eva Lehrer has been living Denmarks since the seventies and since she had enough of teaching high school students the German conjugations and English literature, she is now engaged in Jewish culture full time that she earlier only cultivated on the side after all the papers were marked. As a board member of JCC she organises concerts, Jewish heritage trips, festival, lectures and film screenings and she is salonnière in Denmark's only Jewish culture salon, Salon Schmuus.
Nicolai Kornerup plays the piano, accordeon and is a composer for klezmerband Mames Babenenush performing all over the world. He has also the band AyOwA, whose songs are played internationally.
